Contrat doctoral – Grenoble

The Laboratory TIMC-IMAG, Health, Plasticity, Motricity team (Grenoble, France, http://www-timc.imag.fr/rubrique50.html ) has an open position for a PhD student to perform own research on the link between emotions, posture and locomotion.

Summary of the project

Enormous progress has been made in the many diverse fields of neuroscience during recent decades, but relatively little research has focused on the effects of the emotional context in human posture and gait, especially in children. This fundamental research is important not only theoretically, but also practically and clinically, since patients with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as well as other behavioural problems (i.e., phobia, hyper anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder) are characterized by an alteration of postural control and locomotion.

This project will therefore address the key questions of how the emotions affect postural and gait performances during childhood. A few studies have already been conducted in adults but they have never been extended to children, although we know that these populations are particularly sensitive to the emotional context.

Objectives of the PhD

(1)       To evaluate the influence of the emotional context on postural and gait performances in healthy children,

(2)       To examine the timing and location of the neural activity involved in postural control in different emotional contexts by using electroencephalography (EEG) in healthy children.

Profile of the PhD student

The ideal candidate should have a Master in human movement science, neuroscience, or related disciplines.

Fundings

Please note that the fundings are not secured yet. The selected student will apply with his supervisor Estelle Palluel to a grant called “allocation de recherche”. High marks during the Master 2 are needed for this grant.

Location

Université Grenoble Alpes, Faculty of Medicine, TIMC-IMAG laboratory.

Application deadline: May 20th
